I am stunned by how difficult it was to find a site that simply said “Press and hold Home+Power to take a screenshot…” Well, it works on Gingerbread, and it’s tried and tested on my S2, but I don’t see why it would be any different for others.
There is evidence of variation between builds, though, such as the “Back+Home” combination, suggested for some phones running Froyo. While this was enabled since Android 2.2, there are some costly/inexpensive (depending on how you roll) apps that help with the process, which allow taking screen shots in the older iterations.
